Old School Pilipinas – The Beginnings

How did Old School Pilipinas (OSP) came about? Its a blessing in disguise!

A couple of years ago this month, OSP came into the Philippine car club scene. Its birth is actually not planned nor expected. There is no fanfare, no ribbon-cutting, no gimmicks. It came into the cyberspace silently and slowly, after a few late-nighters on Yahoo messenger with pioneer OSP members: buknoy_jr and harlepoy, while hacking away with phpBB forum software.

It all started when a group of same-brand, same-model old-school cars found each other on another popular forum and started posting on a single thread of its namesake. The thread soon became busy in no time and attracted other-oldschool-models of the same-brand. We started attending Grand EB’s and met each other in person, traded car parts, etc., strenghtening the bond more!

Unfortunately, things got out-of-hand and we were asked to leave the forum and to find ourselves a new home. I must admit, we are partly to blame for our actions being the “pasaways” that time. But its all done for fun, as we old-schoolers love to gather together once-in-a-while. So, all of a sudden, we were homeless. Thus, came the idea to build one for our own! A home “for the old-schoolers by the old-schoolers”.

OSP’s mission is to unite all Filipino old-school car enthsiasts and car clubs into one community. Its vision is to be an organization of Filipino old-school car enthusiasts by providing an online forum where all members can share information, trade and meet other enthusiasts. In short, OSP is not a car club, its a community!

Banawe Xmas EBOn its first month, OSP organized a first in the Philippine car history – a Grand EB on the streets of automotive-haven: Banawe, Quezon City. With the help of fellow members ngota1 and sidsia, the whole block of Banawe (from E. Rodriguez street) was lined-up from both sides with old-school cars from different car clubs and patrons of Ichiban Motors.

By its first year, OSP celebrated its maiden anniversary at the Fort Strip parking area. Again making another first in history of car clubs by having a virtual, 360-degree photoshoot! Thanks to Milo and 360philippines.com, the photo-shoot can still be viewed here.

Shortly before its second year, OSP decided to move out of its current free-hosting service and upgrade to a paid-hosting service to be able to make enhancements to the forum and add new features for the members to enjoy. Thus came the new forum and this blog!

Track DayAnd then on its second year, OSP again made history by doing a 2-lap parade run with the longest line of old-school cars on a Philippine track! The anniversary celebration was held at the Clark International Speedway in Clarkfield Pampanga. This would not be possible without the help of our generous members, the dynamic-duo and crew of Autotrixx with the coordination of Pampanga Old Schoolers Auto Club!

Today, OSP has become a buzz-word on the old-school car scene. Thanks for the support of different car clubs and loyal followers not only from the Philippines, but in the US and other parts of the world.

This is truly our home. Mabuhay OSP and more oldschool-horsepower to you all!
